Hi everyone! Sorry I haven’t blogged in a while. By the time I got caught up on all my soaps after my trip, my laptop decided it wanted a nap and died on me. Anyway, everything is up and ready to go now. I thought the easiest thing to do would be go over what I’ve been loving and what I’d rather walk over hot coals than watch on each of the soaps. I think I’ve got everything covered but the Bold and the Beautiful. Sorry, nothing can make me watch that rubbish - well, nothing until Rick Hearst returns anyway -lol! Anyway, here’s what I’ve been thinking over the last few weeks...
All My Children:
Okay, this show is completely horrible right now. I so deleted this mess off my dvr. However, I am ridiculous so I have been checking in on it when I have been home to and I’d have to say the only things worth watching on this show are the Adam and Erica scenes and the Angie and Jesse scenes - everything else is completely horrid! Of all the awfulness though, these two stories are the ones driving me to never want to watch ths show again.
Completely Horrible Story #1: The Return of the Poison Pancakes
Why has Pratt brought back Alexander Cambias? Why are we re-opening the mess of the poison pancakes? If it wasn’t bad enough that poison pancakes killed my Dixie, he wants ruin the character of Adam and make us think he did it?! And then to make matters worse he might kill off Adam too? WTF?!! And I thought McTrashit was bad, he’s taking her awful and magnifying it by 1000!
Completely Horrible Story #2: The Return of Liza
Jamie Lunar as Liza. Seriously? On what planet is this woman Liza? Was I not tortured enough for the last season Profiler, when she replaced Allie Walker and the show went into the crapper and the only reason I was still watching was because of my unhealthy devotion to Julian McMahon?! No, now I get the privileged of watching her destroy one of my favourite AMC characters. I don’t know who she is supposed to be but she is not Liza Colby! Am I supposed to want to watch her in scenes with Tad or Angie or Jesse? Because I don’t. Or maybe that was the plan all along to not make me want to watch the vets. Whatever the case, I’m not interested. Someone page me when she even starts resembling Liza a little bit.
As the World Turns:
Okay this show is so inconsistent. It can be completely hit or miss. On any given day it can be fun ride or a complete waste of time. It just depends on who’s on.
What’s not Working:
I am bored out of my skull with this Katie/Brad/Henry/Vienna baby story. This story is awful and I am beyond annoyed at the fact this show is making me want to FF through anything with Katie and Henry. Back in the day they would keep me watching this show when it was awful - now they are part of the awful and I don’t like it!
I could also take or leave Allison and Casey and Jade and whatever this ridiculous new nerd is supposed to do with Emily. Zzzzzzzz.... I’m bored, I’ll pass.
Also, I don’t really know wtf Meg is doing with Paul and honestly I don’t care. All I do is scratch my head and then hit FF. All I see is Paul and Meg becoming a poor man’s James and Barbara and honestly, who wants to watch that. I’d rather go on youtube and watch the original.
What’s Working:
I am loving Craig and Carly and anything that has to do with them. I don’t know if they’re actually going to become a real couple or anything but I’m just enjoying them being in each others orbit and being friends again. I know better then to hope for something to last that isn’t a Carly and Jack coupling - so I’m just sitting back and enjoying the ride. I also can’t wait for the return of Rosanna to see how this will impact them. Hopefully, the show won’t mess up her return this time. I mean it’s easy to forget everything Craig has done to Rosanna when she’s not around - but what will happen to Craig and Carly when Rosanna is front and centre? Can’t wait to find out!!
I’m also enjoying Carly’s struggle with her drinking problem. Maura West is knocking it out of the park and the show showing how it is affecting her kids too has been great.
Another thing I’m loving - Damian’s return. Sure, we had to sit through Z & Z annoying entertainment - but since it seems to be part of a set up to a Damian/Lily/Holden triangle, I’ll take it. I was a huge Damian and Lily fan back in the day - they lured me away from Another World for while, that’s how big a fan I was, so I’m all for the re-visiting of that relationship. I’m also enjoying watching the family struggle with Luke finally deciding he wants to know his biological father. Holden sure is feeling threatened by this - despite what he keeps telling Luke. Plus, Damian’s return is leading to screen time for Lucinda and Lisa so I’ll take it!
On a side note:
Is it just me or are the writers basically giving Jack and Holden the same dialogue and then just substituting names: Damian/Craig are the root of all evil... huff and puff... Lily/Carly are stupid for falling for what Damian/Craig are saying... huff and puff... Luke/Parker is my son. Huff and puff... Well, you get the idea -lol!
Days of Our Lives:
I don’t really know where to start with this show. It is better than it was 6 months ago - but I have to admit I’m still kinda bored. Sure, I loved Sami scheming to try to stop EJ and Nicole’s wedding and all the other interruptions for the wedding - but in the end nothing stopped it. So I felt like had watched a whole lot of nothing.
I’m also finding that the DiMeras vs the Kiriakises isn’t as much fun as it could be. Really the only thing I’m enjoying is John Aniston’s portrayal of Victor. He’s kicking ass and having a fun time doing it. I think I need more of Stefano and Victor going head to head to really be enjoying this. Stefano being in a diabetic coma while Victor mocks him is not exactly my two favourite villains going toe to toe. Every time I watch I just think how much better this could be and I wish that Hogan Sheffer and his writing team was writing it because they could write this soooo much better.
Oh, and WTF is happening to my EJ? Everyday he becomes more and more pathetic. He’s helpless and useless and his terrible hair is not helping any! I know tptb will not let James Scott get a hair cut because they think it makes him look more of a bad ass but come on. Someone show them some EJ clips from late 2006 and early 2007 - he was a confident, bad boy, smart ass who was sexy as hell and much more efficient as a villain then he is now. Why don’t they worry about writing EJ like a bad ass and just let James deliver on it - because he will! And let’s not get me started on him having to flashback to playing Chess with Stefano today to figure out that Stefano would have tried to stay one step a head of Victor! I mean WTF was that? I swear it’s like Nicole gave him syphilis which has resulted in brain damage or something! Sigh. Okay end of ruining of EJ rant.
I also can’t bring myself to care about a single couple on this show. The slapping everyone together quickly and not bothering to show the build for any of them just loses me. Not to mention, all of the current couples seem to be stuck in repetitive dialogue land. Hell, I could FF through them and guess what they’re saying because it’s the same thing for all of them every day. I don’t know maybe it’s just the EJami fan in me shutting herself emotionally from this show as a self protective thing. But honestly, how many times can I watch Stephanie tell Philip she can’t do this any more and then she comes back to him 5 minutes later and all is well? Or how many times can I watch Daniel and Chloe whine about how they can’t be together because of Lucas - or watch Lucas ask Chloe what’s wrong and her not tell him? Or how many times can I watch Bo and Hope argue over a lame psychic vision? Or how about Rafe get mad at Sami and walk out when she doesn’t do something he likes? Or watch EJ and Nicole lie to each other all the while pretending all is right with world? It’s the same thing everyday - I’m bored. Or maybe I’m just jaded. Some one let me know if it’s just me!
Okay, that turned into more of a rant than I intended - I guess I’m kind of frustrated right now with Days -lol!
General Hospital:
Okay, I’m still not watching this religiously because honestly it would just drive me to drink and I do not have time for that. However, I did love Helena’s return. I made sure I watched that and I enjoyed every minute of it. I loved it when she caught Ethan trying to rob her and almost slit his throat - only complaint is that she didn’t follow through -lol! I also loved her scenes with Alexis. I was laughing the whole time. It really highlighted how much they need to use Nancy Lee Grahn more - too bad they won’t. Constance Towers breathed some life back into this show for a week and I’m sorry her return was short. However, I’m sure she’ll back since we still don’t know why she wanted that painting. Hopefully she’ll be back soon.
I’m not going to bother talking about how awful the rest of ths show is because really there’s only so many time you can say, “Claudia is terrible; NotEmily is a joke; Ethan sucks; More Qs and hospital - less mob; wtf did Kimberly McCullough do to Bob Guza to deserve this post-partum hell, etc. So let me just say Guza and Frons need to go and call it a day.
Guiding Light:
I have to say watching Guiding Light has been a joy over the last few weeks. So let’s start with the praise.
What’s Working:
Olivia and Natalia:
I’m loving the slow build up of Olivia and Natalia. It’s actually a realistic love story which is rare these days - especially for a lesbian love story. I was never really a fan of either character before but I gotta say their love story is sucking me in. The aftermath of Natalia and Frank’s non-wedding was painfully awesome to watch. It was full of soapy goodness. The guilt Natalia felt over calling it off combined with her relief of telling Olivia the truth about her feelings was fantastic. Olivia trying to be noble for once and let Natalia go if that’s what she wanted was great. I loved the moment in the church afterwards with the two of them and little Emma. Oh, and how adorable was their Spa get away last week. How fracking cute!
The Spauldings:
The there’s the awesomeness of the Spauldings! The family dinners, the location shoot at Universal Studios and even the return to Springfield - I’ve been loving it all! I’m not sure what was funnier - when everyone ditched Alan and all he had for company was a stuffed Woody Woodpecker doll for company or when he was stuck hanging out with Daisy and Ashlee and cracking comments about how both of them had tried to kill him. I also loved Rick covering for Philip’s escape to Florida and Philip starting to realize just how messed up James might be when James asked him to kill Alan for him. The whole trip was crazy fun to watch and left me wanting more.
Fun Character Moments:
I’m also enjoying the fun little character moments that the show’s been giving us lately. For example, I loved Billy trying to cheer up and distract Reva when she was stuck in the hospital. It was great when he sent Blake to sit with Reva and brought a web cam to Company with him so she wouldn’t feel left out of what was going on in town. He and Buzz were hysterical with comparing who had been a better husband and the kicker of course was when they mooned her. I was laughing so hard I was crying. It was great, it was fun and it drew on character history which is more than I can say most shows are bothering to do these days.
What’s not working:
Okay, every show has it’s flaws and this Edmund storyline is a stinker. I love Edmund but this just isn’t working for me. It’s not exactly riveting televison. However, the rest of the show is so good right now that it doesn’t bother me as much as it could. Besides, if it leads to the end of Reva and Jeffery and puts her back with Josh, it might be worth it -lol!
One Life to Live:
I don’t know what’s going with this show. Two weeks ago something happened - I started FF through more than I was watching. I’m not sure what’s going on and I don’t like it.
The Good:
Todd/Tea/RJ:
Over the last few weeks, I can safely say I have enjoyed the craziness of Todd and Tea. Sure, they’re dysfunctional as hell, but they’re fun and entertain the hell out of me and have smoking hot chemistry so what’s not to love? I’m also enjoying the brief return of RJ Gannon and the interaction with him, Todd and Tea. The three of them in the courtroom after RJ walked in after their little sexcapade had me in stitches. Now all I need is for RJ to actually share a scene with his brother and niece and I’ll be a happy girl!
Zach:
I also enjoyed the insane return of Zach. He was always such a bastard and he never apologized for it. Sometimes you just need a bad guy to be a bad guy - you know?
David Vickers:
Then, of course, we have David’s brief return too. It was bittersweet to watch him and Dorian call it quits, but as he said they’ll always be David and Dorian. I also loved him going to tell Vicki about the end of his marriage. Vicki and David scenes are always great but her reaction to his recent acting gig was priceless. I’ll be missing Tuc Watkins til his next return. It would be nice if Desperate Housewives would actually use him!
Bo and Nora:
Can I just say that this Bo and Nora fan has been waiting for them to get back together since they were lamely broken up so long ago! One of my favourite memories as a kid was Bo and Nora’s wedding with Little Richard playing the piano. Oh, good times. I’m loving the slow build up of the two them getting back together. When Marcie broke in on them almost kissing in the car because she thought they were a couple of teenagers making out, I was in stitches.
Matthew and Destiny:
Okay, I don’t know what it is but I don’t love a lot of teenage couples on soaps - never have, even when I was a teenager. They’re usually written pretty lame. However, I am really starting to enjoy Matthew and Destiny though so if they decided to go that route with them I think it could be fun. Her character is like a breath of fresh air on the teen scene and the way she sticks up for Matthew and calls him on his crap at the same time is great. Whether they keep them friends or start something more - count me in for the ride.
Jessica and Brody:
Despite how much I loved Nash, I find myself being drawn to these two on a regular basis. I hope these two crazy kids can continue to get past all the things life throws at them - like that annoying shrew Stacey.
The Bad:
Okay, for all the god, the bad seems to be starting to eat the show alive. Over the last couple of weeks the stupidness of Lola, the annoying bitchiness of Stacey and the stupid returns of Powell Lord and Rebecca Lewis seem to be pushing all the stuff I’m liking to the back burner and putting all the crap forward.
Stacey/Rex/Gigi:
Nobody’s liking this - not the viewers and heck, even the actors look bored. First of all, the character of Stacey is an annoying bitch with no rootable qualities so why should I care what happens to her. Second of all this whole story is stupid because I don’t understand why Gigi just doesn’t tell Rex the truth about Stacey and then they could pretend to be over until they’re sure they don’t need anymore of her bone marrow. Thirdly, just frakking cast Rex’s father already. If it’s Mitch, let’s just get on with it. This is getting to the point where I wouldn’t care if his father turned out to be Roxy’s talking Beaver if it meant this would be over!
Powell is the Killer and Rebecca’s his accomplice:
Say what? Okay, Powell being the killer actually doesn’t bother me that much. The guy went crazy over his guilt from raping Marty. I saw it happen, so while it seems a little far-fetched that he’s back suddenly now I can go with it. The part that bugs me is that Rebecca is his accomplice. Someone explain this to me, please. I am waiting and waiting for the why here. I know I was just a kid when Powell raped Rebecca but I remember her character vividly and she left town because she’d had enough of Todd and Powell and all this crap - so now suddenly she’s gone loopy herself, loves the guy and is helping him kill people? Miss Saintly Rebecca? Really? I’m not buying it. What is this, delayed Stockholm syndrome? I know she was a sucker for trying to redeem a guy but ths is ridiculous! Combine this with recasting Rebecca and I don’t see the point. They should have just made it crazy Powell and called it a day. Now, instead of watching this, I just scratch my head and hit FF when I see this mess come on. Especially when you know the icing on the cake will be John McPain saving the day - oh, joy, I can’t wait.
Baby Switch:
Are we there yet? Is this mess of a baby switch over yet? The Day this mess is over I will celebrate with a freaking Marching band. Someone just give Starr her kid back - please!
Lola:
Not much to say about her. Annoying teenager who just needs to go! Luckily, I hear that’s happening soon. Yay!!!
The Young and The Restless:
The Good:
I’ve been finding Y&R in a holding pattern lately. However, I celebrated the hell out of Kevin knocking the crap out of that damn chipmunk and coming back to reality. I swear, I came this close to burning my copy of Donnie Darko because of that storyline!
I’m also intrigued by the Adam gas lighting Ashley and maybe faking his blindness. This whole driving Ashley crazy using Victor’s dead wife and baby to do it is very gothic romance and I enjoy those so we’ll see how it goes, but I’m liking it so far.
I also enjoyed Victor slamming the door in Heather’s face twice in one week. It was classic Victor!
The Bad:
Sharon and her three Dads. Does any one else find this entire thing lame? The more interesting thing would be to make this baby Billy’s but you know it’s going to end up being Nick’s baby because he’s the only one she didn’t tell. And seriously, how many times does Jack have to play Sharon’s schmuck? I don’t know, I am just soooo over this mess.
All in all, it’s been a crazy few weeks in the soap world. Some good stuff and some bad. Hopefully, the stuff that’s stinking up the joint will be put out of it’s misery soon. I promise, I’ll keep this sucker more up to date from now on barring now more computer emergencies!
Ttyl!

One Life To Live: Todd & Tea – OMG!!!!!!
Hey, everyone! Sorry I haven’t been blogging much lately. I had to get myself to Hartford last week for a Days of Our Lives Charity event and I’ve been trying to catch up on my soaps since I’ve been back. Well, I just finished watching yesterday's OLTL and I don’t even know what to say. Todd and Tea actually had sex on the defense table in the courtroom!!! I know these two can be pretty risqué but in the courtroom right before a custody hearing?!! OMG!!!! I really don’t know what else to say about it – except I’m not sure how they got that past Disney or the censors!
Here’s a link to it on youtube if you want it to check it out. Warning: it’s pretty dang hot!
Things only got better when Marty walked on them getting re-dressed. The look of horror on her face when she saw them was priceless. I also loved how they used the ending of it for the return of RJ. I loved he walked in the courtroom just in time to zip Tea up.
All this, plus David came back too. What a frakking crazy episode!!! Now, I’m off running to my TV to watch today’s eppy! I can’t even imagine what Ron Carlavati’s got waiting for me on my dvr! Part of me's afraid and the others pretty damn excited!

The Crazy World of Soaps in Review: April 6th – April 10th 2009
Okay, so since I’ve been celebrating Easter this weekend this is going to be a short one and I have decided I will try to keep this weeks review as positive as possible. Well, I’ll try anyway –lol!
Sweetest Moment:
I’m going to have to gives this to Days of Our Lives, and the scene with EJ, Sami and Johnny. I admit it I’m an EJami fan so, I’m naturally a sucker for them having a family moment with their son, but come on it was frakking adorable! After Sami rushed to comfort EJ after hearing about Tony’s death, she had her grandmother drop off Johnny to cheer up EJ. I don’t know what was cuter, Johnny announcing he had an itch or Johnny turning to EJ and asking, “So, how was your work?” or EJ scooping him up and cuddling with him on the chair. I love this kid playing Johnny – he’s hysterical and nothing’s hotter than James Scott playing dad. For one brief moment on this show, life was good.
Soapiest Moment(s):
Okay, I thought the soapiest stuff this week was all about the Spauldings on Guiding Light. The week started with a possibly goodbye family dinner for Phillip and sarcastic comments flying everywhere, all leading up to Alan dumping the money that Phillip had been hiding from Grady’s murder on the table. Then, we saw Alan trying to bribe the Judge with this money to get his son, Phillip, sent to jail. The bribery worked and Phillip went to jail for about 5 minutes, until his son, James, manipulated the governor’s daughter into helping him out and getting the governor to pardon Phillip. The look on Alan’s face as Phillip sauntered in to the Spaulding mansion - priceless! This all culminated with a second Spaulding family dinner, where things got even better: Phillip and Alan competing to be the Alpha male of the family with things like talking over each other in a toast; Alexandra praising Phillip and trying to get under Alan’s skin; Lillian sitting beside Alan to play ‘babysitter’; Alan threatening Beth and James returning to town just in time to help her; James and Philip’s face to face meeting and James saying he wants nothing to do with his father and Phillip commenting on how he sounds just like him about Alan; Bill’s sarcastic commentary on the family gathering to Lizzie and then finally, Daisey or Susan or whatever the hell she’s calling herself these days, showing up as James’ guest – the Cooper and Lewis who once thought she was his sister shows up, thinking he’s just a cute guy and then finds out who he is – plus the reaction of the family – again, priceless!!! The Spauldings were on fire this week and I can’t wait to see what they bring next week! If only Guiding Light had remembered how to be fun and soapy sooner. Oh right, staying positive this week… Well, at least if Guiding Light has to go out, it will go out in a blaze of glory!
Funniest Moment:
Well, there were a lot of funny moments this week, but I think I have to give this to One Life to Live’s David Vickers and his hemorrhoid cream commercial. I blogged on it earlier, so I won’t spend too much time on this, but I still laugh when I think of him being so excited about becoming a spokesperson for it and Dorian looking appalled. Damn, I miss David when he’s not around.
Performance of the Week:
Okay, first I have to confess I watched General Hospital again. This is not my fault, I visited my parents and my mother made me honest –lol! Anyway, I rag on this show a lot but I have to give to praise Julie Marie Berman’s performance as Lulu and Johnny broke up. Sure, the writing was terrible and the whole thing was contrived as hell because this is General Hospital, but Julie sure knocked it out of the park! She had me crying right along with her as her world was falling apart. I loved her conversation with Tracy as she tried to get Lulu to snap out of it and help her stop Ethan. Oh, how I wish someone would stop Ethan and his bad Jack Sparrow impersonation from being on screen…. Anyway, back to positives, with a crappy show screwing up everything all the time Julie managed to make something shine out of that mess so she deserves the praise. Well, that sounded partially positive right? Sigh. Oh well, I tried but it’s hard when the JoLu and Spixie fan is in desperate need of a drink –lol!
Line(s) of the Week:
Okay, positive thoughts… here are some of my favourite lines of the week – you’ll see I wasn’t kidding about the greatness of the Spauldings:
Guiding Light:
Alan bribing the Judge on Phillip’s case:
Alan: Well, I can understand why that might be a conflict of interest, but I'm not here to talk about my son's trial. I'm here as a concerned citizen of Springfield. I'm concerned about our environment.
Judge: Oh, really? Hmm.
Alan: Yes. And I feel, as one of the leaders of this community, that I should be a part of setting the tone for the way we should be going, which I believe is green. And that's why I have purchased a vehicle. I'd love to show it to you.
Judge: You know, my daughter is on the Springfield green planning board.
Alan: Really?
Judge: Mm-hmm.
Alan: Well, maybe if she saw this, she'd buy a fleet for the entire city.
Judge: Well, then I guess I should have a look.
Alan: Well, please. And you'll notice that basically the car is the same. The motor is up in the front, and everything is the same. Now, the green part, your Honor, is back here. Let me show it to you. Now, that's green. That's why it is very important, your Honor, for us to agree on how to handle the environment in this city.
Judge: I'm not sure I'm as progressive as you are, Mr. Spaulding.
Alan: Well, of course you are, your Honor. We both want the same things. We want fresh air, pristine water, safer streets for our children to play in. But what we have to do is rid this city of all its toxins, so that the next generation will be safe. Now, when you took your oath of office as a judge, you said that you would be fair and make this city the best that you could. Isn't that what you want for your daughter and her family?
Judge: My daughter does love green.
Alan: Well, doesn't she need to be rewarded for all of her hard work? I mean, you know, we parents have to take care of our children. We know what's best for them.
Judge: You're a very convincing man, Mr. Spaulding.
Alan to Beth after Rick arrives to the party: Beth, I thought you told me this was supposed to be a family celebration.
Beth: Rick is practically part of the family.
Alan: Yeah, well, for you, Beth, every man at this table is practically part of the family.
James wants Daisey to stay for Dinner and Alan says: She tried to shoot me, so she is not welcome. You should leave.
Phillip: You did shoot me, and she is extremely welcome and staying.
Bill: Well, I vote she stays.
Lizzie: I vote yes.
Alan: I vote no.
Phillip: Of course you're welcome. You're not going to throw up, are you?
Daisy: I can't make any promises.
General Hospital:
Tracy isn’t too happy with Spinelli’s P.I. work and lets him know it: This is the best you can come up with?
Spinelli: I did exactly what the Abrasive One asked of me.
Tracy: I expect a little more than the address where Ethan is staying -- you're the Jackass.
Spinelli: The Jackal.
Later on Tracey tries to get Spinelli to leave: Jackass, why are you still standing here? You have work to do. Get back to me with any information you find.
One Life to Live:
David’s opening line in his national commercial: Not too shabby, eh? (plays with his tux) But it's nothing special for me. I'm out on the town every night of the week. Tonight it's a movie premiere, and I'm seated next to a couple of people named Brad and Angelina. But I can't go. Why not? Because of this. (goes to sit down) Oh! That's right, my friends. I can't sit down. Like many of you, I have known the painful agony of hemorrhoids.
That’s all for my recap this week. I hope I did my best to stay positive – I even said two nice things about GH –lol!
Ttyl!!

David Vickers vs. the Hemorrhoids
Yesterday’s episode of One Life to Live, finally gave us a laugh to mix in with all the drama, in the form of an appearance by David Vickers. David surprised Dorian and the viewers with an excited phone call explaining that he had his first acting gig since he went back to Hollywood. While watching his commercial, I nearly fell off my couch laughing as David went from talking about sitting beside Brangelina at an awards show to talking about having hemorrhoids! The look on Dorian’s face as he pulled out the hemorrhoid cream was priceless. I can’t really do it justice put just trust me, whether you watch OLTL or not you have to watch this! I promise you’ll laugh.
I really wish Tuc would come back to the show full time. Desperate Housewives completely wastes him and OLTL needs the comic relief right now!

The Crazy World of Soaps: A Week in Review
Hey everyone! So, a lot of people told me they liked the week in review thing so I figured I’d do it again for last week. So without further ado, here’s previously in the crazy world of soaps…
Craziest Moment:
I have to go with the Jill and Katharine’s cat fight on the Young and the Restless. It was the moment we all were waiting for once we knew the test results were in and it didn’t disappoint! Jill and Katharine resumed their old ways the minute the test results came in at Billy and Chloe’s wedding. First came the verbal sparring and then came the food fight. Poor Chloe, didn’t know what hit her as she walked in to see her wedding cake all over Katherine, Jill and whoever else had gotten in the way. What a blast to see the two of them grabbing chunks of cake and throwing them at each other! Hear’s hoping we get another blow out real soon.
Saddest Moment(s):
Days of Our Lives was crying central for me last week as I tuned in and watched the death of Tony DiMera. I know after the many deaths of Tony DiMera or Andre or whoever, you’d think I’d be over it by now, but apparently I’m not – lol! Thaao Penglis was knocking it out of the park as usual, using mostly facial expressions to convey emotions as Nicole threatened him, Lexie fussed about him and as EJ tried to get a clue as Tony tried tell him about Nicole’s secret. Then, when he died, the actors involved all gave knock out performances as they dealt with the fall out. James Scott broke my heart as EJ came out of Tony’s room and told everyone he was flat lining. Renee Jones was equally heart-breaking as she came out to tell everyone Tony was gone and EJ comforted her as she broke down his arms. Joe Moscolo’s portrayal of Stefano had me crying as he teared up at the news and then vowed vengeance on Phillip. Even Leann Hunley’s return as Anna – as unfortunately brief as it was - moved me as she ripped into Stefano and blamed him for Tony’s death, before slapping him across the face and leaving. It was definitely an emotionally week in Salem.
Soapiest Moment:
This definitely has to go to the Young and the Restless and Chloe and Billy’s Wedding. First, Billy is late because he was hung over after a night of debauchery with the Maid of Honour and his brother’s almost ex-wife, Sharon. Then, while Jill was finding out that Katharine really was Katharine and that Kay wasn’t really her mother, Billy and Chloe were saying their “I do’s” in order to help keep custody of their daughter Delia. Meanwhile, as these two very soapy things were happening, Katharine’s granddaughter and Billy’s ex, Mackenzie arrived at the mansion. After the “I Do’s” Billy finds out that Mac is back, which hits him hard, and then he learns the test results which mean he is no longer Katharine’s grandson and the reason that he and Mac broke up years ago – because they had found out they were cousins – just didn’t matter anymore. So now, Billy is trapped in a marriage with a woman he doesn’t love, while the woman he really loves is back and actually available. It doesn’t really get any soapier than that!
Worst Moment:
CBS announcing the cancellation of Guiding Light. If the announcement itself wasn’t bad enough, to do it on April Fool’s Day was just damn tacky! Shame on you CBS, shame on you!
Favourite Girl Power Moment(s):
Okay, now you might be wondering why this even needs a category, so I will explain. Most soaps today seem to forget that women are their primary target audience (*coughs * GH) and seem out of touch with us women, so when a soap seems to remember we exist I feel the need to point it out –lol! Anyway, my first favourite moment is OLTL showing Marty and Jessica renewing their friendship. Both of these ladies have had a rough year and made some pretty bad mistakes, so it was nice to see them bond over that, bury the hatchet and do something as simple as talk about guys at the diner. Of course this being a soap, the men in their lives eventually broke both their hearts by trying to do something noble for two other women which led to my second favourite moment, another female bonding scene of the two of them drowning their sorrows in tea. I loved that the writers used the fact that both characters can’t drink and made something fun out of it by having them make fun of the fact they were taking shots of tea. Soaps these days don’t really show female friendships anymore so I’d like to thank Ron Carlavati and his team for remembering we like to see them.
Favourite Return:
There were a few returns this week, but my absolute favourite was the return of One Life To Live’s Hank Gannon. What an awesome surprise this week! I knew he was coming back, but I haven’t really been following spoilers so I didn’t know he was going to be back on Wednesday, so when Nora opened the door to the Buchanan mansion and found herself looking at her ex-husband Hank Gannon, and then she smiled – I found myself smiling too. Hank’s return to help Nora and Bo through this rough time with their son, Matthew’s paralysis is most welcome by this long-time viewer. As Nora finally broke down and cried on Hank’s shoulder, I cried. When, Bo arrived and saw Hank, the smile and look of relief on his face as he saw his best friend made me smile and cry. The actors got back into their rhythm as if he had never left. After the crappy Wednesday I’d had after hearing about Guiding Light, the return of Hank Gannon just made me feel like everything would be okay in soapland – even if it was just for a moment.
Worst Character:
Now, I know both OLTL’s Stacey and Days of Our Lives' Melanie were on this week, but I’m going to surprise everyone and not give this to them. The character that annoyed the hell out of me and pissed me off the most this week was Sharon Newman Abbott. Maybe it’s because my roommate and I watch Y&R live while we eat dinner, so I can’t FF through her like can the two above mentioned irritants, but I just wanted to slap this girl silly this week – and since I couldn’t, I was cheering for Phyllis to do it for me! I am sooooo tired of Sharon being St. Sharon while she’s sleeping around town and stealing from everyone and everywhere. And then, when Phyllis calls her on her crap she blames her for everything. Sigh. I love characters that sleep around and steal and scheme when they admit that’s who they are and they don’t try to sound perfect and – they just try to be they’re crazy lovable selves – but Sharon drives me freaking crazy with all her whining and ‘woe is me’ crap. I get it her life is falling apart, but you can’t try to sell yourself as Little Miss Perfect while your sleeping with your husband’s brother, your husband and your ex-husband and stealing anything that isn’t glued down– it just doesn’t fly!
Lines of the week:
Days of Our Lives:
Nicole to a (tubed Tony in his hospital bed): “You owe me your life. And you know how you're gonna repay me? You're going to keep your mouth shut, agreed? Oh, for God's sake, Tony, say something!”
Nurse (comes in and points at tube): “Hey, hey, hey. He can’t.
Stefano (to Nicole): “Just get out of my house you lying bitch!”
Lucas (to Sami): “You were pregnant, you were being stalked by an assassin, and you fell for your bodyguard, which, by the way, that's not compatibility, all right? That's Stockholm syndrome.”
General Hospital:
Claudia (to Johnny and Maxie): He [Ric] overdosed on pills and booze and he passed out cold after we had sex. You got to get him out of here.
Maxie: Finally, someone more screwed up than me.
One Life to Live:
Hank (to Bo): All-righty, then. So, there's just one thing we need to talk about. Nora and Clint?
Bo: Uh-huh. No, no. Don't even go there.
Bartender (trying to stop Todd from leaving): I'm going to need you to settle up your tab.
Todd: Oh, no, I paid you for the drink.
Bartender: Your friend said to put his dinner on your tab.
Todd: I don't have any friends.
Young and the Restless:
Billy: Hey, Mom. I wasn't sure you would be here.
Jill: I'm here for you.
Chloe: And what an interesting wedding gift-- a pink slip. Thank you.
Chloe: See, that is the difference between you and me, Jill. Billy was always my favorite.
Colleen: She's just not his.
Chloe: I heard that.
Well, that’s it for this week’s review! Please share your own thoughts on this past week. And I Hope we get some happier news in soapland in the days to come.

It's A Sad, Sad Day....
It's a sad day in soapland boys and girls. Daytime’s longest running drama, Guiding Light, has been cancelled. This really sucks because Guiding Light has been smoking lately. I had given up on it about 5 or 6 years ago - around the time they made Philip crazy and started writing Manny like complete crap. But once I heard that Philip was about to come back and that it had been improving I decided to check it out again and it's been on fire since.
In my opinion, this isn't just bad news for GL fans; this is soap history being flushed down the toilet. And for what? Rumour has it maybe a re-do of $25,000 Pyramid. Didn't a re-do of that already get cancelled a couple of years ago? Seriously CBS? Well, this is worrisome because if you look at the soap ratings, there are less than a million Neilson household shares separating GL from most of the other soaps out there. ATWT was barely renewed today, Days is on the brink, AMC isn't doing so hot and GH is sinking faster than the titanic. All this and this year marks the 10th Anniversary of the cancellation of Another World. This soap addict feels like Soap Armageddon is upon us!! I feel like gathering up all my old soap VHS tapes and eating a whole chocolate cake this weekend!! What else is a girl to do?! Well, this girl plans to call, email, mail letters and boycott the hell out of CBS – except the soaps of course. Frack’em! And to think when I raced home from work to watch Guiding Light today and thought I was having a surreal moment watching Edmund helping Reva while she went into labour today, I had no idea the surreal evil April Fool’s joke that was waiting for me on the internet afterwards. For once I wished I hadn't felt the need to feed my addiction and check daytimeconfidential.com today. Sigh. I am so depressed. :(

Truer Words Were Never Spoken...
On today’s episode of Days of Our Lives, Sami finally introduced Will to his ‘sister’ Grace. Will wasn’t too impressed with Sami’s story and got up to leave, but she begged him to stay and talk to her, which led to the following exchange that had the Sami fan in me cheering:
Will: “No, not if you're gonna cry all the time.”
Sami (starting to cry): I'm not crying, all right? I'm upset because you're angry. So, sit down.
Will (groaning): Oh, my god.
Sami tries to explain some more and apologize for his messed up childhood which leads to:
Will: My god, you're gonna cry again.
Sami: I'm not... I'm not crying. (Yes, she is, just like she always is, just like she has been doing – a lot for the last couple of years!)
Now we get to my point and the best part.
Will (getting up to leave again): Okay, look, I'm done with the tears. (And a few seconds later he walks out of the pub.)
Amen! Alleluia!! So say we all, Will, so say we all!!!!
Enough with Sami crying all the time Days – I want my scheming, angry bitch back!!!! If I wanted a weepy, whiney heroine I’d campaign to get Carrie back on the canvas! Will the real Sami Brady please stand up...

This is Why I Shouldn't Watch General Hospital...
Okay, so let me start by explaining I have tried to give up watching General Hospital for Lent, because it makes me and everyone around me miserable when I do since I complain about how awful it is while I watch it and for hours afterwards and really nobody wants to hear me anymore – so I really am doing it as a service for others –lol! Anyway, I go to visit my mother today and of course she has GH on – she is the one who got me hooked on it in the first place. So, what’s the first thing I see, but Sonny knocking on Claudia’s door and when she answers it, she’s greeted with a “Let’s do this.” as he starts taking off his jacket and walks in. Seriously? Hardly even a ‘hello’ or ‘how’s it going’. Nope, not from Sonny, he has needs that need attending too. Now, I thought this was bad, but than I watched as she continued trying to blow him off, telling him she needed to freshen up (since you know trampy Claudia has Sonny’s unconscious brother, whom she’s just had sex with, hidden under the bed, she probably figures this could get complicated) and Sonny won’t take “no’ for an answer as he replies with comments like, “Ok, but don't take long, ok? Because I need it right now.” Wow! I’m sure the entire female audience was swooning at that comment! Who says romance is dead on soaps?! Sigh.

A Week in Review in the World of Soaps
Since I’m just getting things started with the blog, I thought a good way to get my feet wet would be to touch on the highlights of what went on in the world of soaps this week, so here goes…
Sweetest Moment:
I have to give this to Guiding Light. When Philip accidentally ran into Emma at Company it was too cute. The look on his face when he finally got to see his daughter combined with how happy she was to see him had me in tears. It was nice to finally see someone genuinely happy to see him back in town for a change.
Tackiest Moment:
This is a two-way tie for Days of Our Lives. I couldn’t decide between Tony lamely telling Philip, “Well, what are you gonna do, huh, challenge me with your lightsaber, young Padawan?” and Tony getting staked on the docks when he fell down the stairs – so I’ll just give it to them for both. I think I’ve talked enough on the subject in my other entry – so let me just add another “WTF?” and leave it at that.
Craziest Moment:
This goes to the Young and the Restless for having a completely losing it Kevin lock Amber up in the closet with a very dead and probably smelly body. Poor Girl, she just kept talking her way back into that closet – lol!
Soapiest Moment:
I have to go with Jack walking in on Carly and Craig on As The World Turns. Sure, Jack and Carly are divorced but he still seems more interested in her life than his own, so it had to hurt when he opened the door and saw them ripping off each others clothes.
Saddest Moment:
Well, there’s a lot of heavy stuff going on over at One Life to Live, but I think the moment that got to me the most was when a recently paralyzed Matthew told his father, Bo, that he thought they should put him in a home because he didn’t want to be a burden on his parents. The comment caught both Bo and me by surprise and had me instantly in tears.
Worst Socially Relevant Storytelling:
It was tough to decide between General Hospital’s Post-Partum Depression Story with Robin and As the World Turns Luke and Noah fighting against the bigot landlords of the world but in the end I had to give it to the ATWT. Watching this was like watching a bad after school special. How hard would it have really been for Jean Passante to come up with something better for these two to do? Apparently a lot harder then I thought. The only good thing that came from this thing was Damian’s return. Hopefully the show won’t blow that too. Well, the good news is that this is ATWT so the story lasted less than week. That’s great news for GH, because that means they can still earn themselves this title later –lol!
Favourite Character:
I have to go with Guiding Light’s Philip Spaulding. This week, the one character I enjoyed the most was Philip. He was the one character I couldn’t wait to see more of and boy was his week full. He was questioned by the police. He put his father in place with a little bit of blackmail, who in turn tried to do all he could to get Philip put in jail. He went around town trying to make amends with people he had wronged. He had a re-union with one daughter and revealed to his eldest daughter that he had killed Grady to protect her. All that and then he had to go and get himself to court for a hearing with the audience left wondering if his daughter Lizzie would tell everyone what he had done - luckily she didn't. Since his return, Philip has been like a shot of energy into the show and I’m loving every minute of it!
Worst Character:
Since Melanie wasn’t on Days this week, this is an easy choice for me. This week it goes to One Life to Live’s Stacey. Gigi’s annoying sister continued to be an annoying bitch this week as she refused to give her nephew Shane her bone marrow unless Gigi broke up with Rex. You know, usually I love a bad girl – hell, I loved Days’ Vivian burying Carly alive and I liked Carly – but this girl I don’t get. She’s just a bitch for the sake of it. What’s her motivation? She had a crush on Rex in high school? I just don’t get it. It doesn’t help that she’s on every day either. I think I can safely speak for OLTL viewers everywhere when I say – “Please, Ron! Give us a break!!!”
Favourite Episode:
This week, my favourite episode in soapland was probably from the Young and the Restless, when a very dead Marge was narrating as her body was being tested to prove it wasn’t Katharine in the casket. Marge’s comments were not only hysterical, they were dead on! She was saying what a lot of us were probably thinking as we watched. And damn, she looked really good for a dead woman!
Okay, I think that’s enough rambling about last week, hear's hoping this week is a fun and crazy one in the soap world!
Days of Our Lives: Count Dimera Gets Staked!
So, this week Days of Our Lives gave us the lead-up to Thaao Penglis leaving the show by having his character, Count Tony Dimera staked on the docks. I think the phrase that would best sum my reaction to this storyline would be “WTF?!” I mean, in theory, this should be an amazing story – the eldest Dimera son killed in fight with the Kiriakis heir leading to an eruption between the show’s two powerful, villainous families, and yet it isn’t. This should be fun, thrilling, and captivating, but instead, in the hands of the show’s current writing team this story comes across as a lame and pathetic waste of everyone’s time.
First of all, I think that if you’re gonna kill off Tony maybe you should have been building up to it over the period of a few months, not a couple of weeks. The writers should be playing all the beats of the story. They should have shown Tony slipping into bitterness about EJ being treated as the golden boy, while Stefano was treating him like mud. Then, there should have been a slow build up to Tony finding out the truth about Nicole and then him holding it over her head for at least a month – or better yet two. This way Tony’s behaviour in this whole stupid scenario would make sense and we would have seen Nicole unraveling some more before we see her trying to decide whether to bother calling 9-1-1. Instead, we get hardly any Tony for months. Instead, on the flip of a dime, we get a Tony who goes from wanting nothing to do with Stefano and the business, to a Tony that’s jealous of EJ and feels he’s being taken for granted. Instead, we get Tony acting more like Andre. Thus, leaving all of us viewers scratching our heads and collectively asking, “WTF?” And apparently, viewers aren’t the only ones wondering “WTF?” because in some of the scenes this week – like Stefano and EJ discussing what the heck Tony’s problem is – we can see the actors struggling with the material. When I see actors the caliber of James Scott and Joe Mascolo struggling with crappy dialogue and nonsensical motivation and storytelling, you know it’s not just you, it’s just that bad!
Second of all, the dialogue in the arguments building up to Friday’s showdown between Philip and Tony are absolutely cringe worthy. You have Philip running around town yelling, “Tony!!!” Then, you have Philip acting like an 8 year old in the school yard, stomping his feet saying, “I want my Alternative Fuel Project, now!” I’m surprised he isn’t threatening to tell his mommy for crying out loud. Then, you have what should be an interesting conversation between the two of them on the docks, where Tony tries to tell him he’ll never please Victor, but the writers ruin it with things like Tony saying, “Well, what are you gonna do, huh, challenge me with your lightsaber, young Padawan?” I mean, seriously? I love a sci-fi/pop culture reference as much as the next person, heck probably even more, but I’m supposed to believe Tony Dimera is quoting Star Wars? And not just any Star Wars, but the crappy prequels that all came out when he was stranded on an island for 20 years!!!! So according to these awesome writers, in the year and half that Tony’s been back, he made sure he caught up on all the movies he missed? I guess that explains where he was all those months he was offscreen! Sigh.
Thirdly, let’s get to the showdown, which consisted of Philip shoving Tony around and continuing his wonderful dialogue of yelling things like, “Are you gonna give me my project back? Huh? Huh? Answer me, damn it.” and then shoving Tony who gives him a ‘WTF” face as we see this wooden spike sticking up in the background the whole time. Subtle, really subtle. Then, after all this lameness is done and Tony pretty much laughs Philip’s ridiculousness off, he starts to walk away and falls when the railing on the stairs becomes loose and falls off, taking Tony with it and naturally he falls on the stake. Now, science wasn’t my best subject, but what did he do, back flip into the air and land on his back? Maybe, he did a summersault in the air? Should we judge his dismount too, while we’re at it? Talk about contrived crap! This stuff isn’t even worthy of a “B” movie.
After watching this week, I am appalled that someone out there thought what they were writing was clever. Thaao deserves more, the show deserves more and the fans deserve more. How am I supposed to look forward to the fall out from this, when the writers couldn’t even be bothered to give me a good exit story for Tony. Sometimes I think Steve and Kayla got off easy – not being written an exit storyline at all seems to be best for everyone with these writers.
End of Rant.

My Name is Susan and I'm a Soapaholic
Hi everyone! My name is Susan and I'm a Soapaholic. Welcome to Diary of a Soap Addict. I guess since this is my first blog entry I’ll take the opportunity to say a little bit about myself and my soap addiction. I’ve been watching soaps for as long as I can remember - thanks to my mother. She got me hooked on the ABC soaps at a very young age. Some of my earliest memories involve me sneaking downstairs during “naptime” to watch All My Children and One Life to Live. I was that kid who had a SOD subscription in elementary school and learned how to set the VCR to tape my soaps before I was writing in cursive because I was afraid to miss Robert and Anna’s second wedding on General Hospital or Isabella’s death on Days of our Lives. I’ve watched every soap on the air at one time or another but my two favourite soaps are probably Days of our Lives and General Hospital which is why you’ll probably find I’m the hardest on them because they suck right now and it’s just so heartbreaking for me to watch them when they’re beyond bad. Anyway, I think that’s enough of the boring stuff. I’ll hopefully put something more interesting up in a little while. I hope you come back to check it out. Ttyl!
